What Happened?
The S&P 500 and Dow Jones were flat on Tuesday as investors parsed company earnings reports and awaited the Fed’s next policy decision on Wednesday.
According to FactSet, 30% of companies in the S&P 500 have reported Q1 earnings so far, with 88% of them beating expectations.
Interestingly, only 57% of reporting companies have seen their stocks rise after releasing their earnings. Investors seem to be taking a cautious approach as valuations are elevated.
Investors will closely watch Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference on Wednesday for any hints on future policy changes.
In February, U.S. home prices climbed 12%, the most in 15 years.
