What Happened?
The S&P 500 closed above 4000 for the first time on Thursday, led by gains in major tech names such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet.
Q2 is off to a strong start as vaccinations in the U.S. accelerate and economic activity starts to pick up. Investors expect a huge bounce in economic growth later this year.
The S&P 500 is up 7% in 2021, and it has gained 80% from its March 2020 low.
On Wednesday, President Biden revealed a $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan focused on repairing roads and bridges, increasing funding for research and development, and improving internet access.
U.S. weekly jobless claims climbed to 719,000 last week from 658,000 the previous week.
